I assisted Professor Ravi Ramamoorthi on researching for a new physically-based reflectance model for animal fur that considers the subsurface anatomic structure of a fiber. Our model is capable of producing photo-realistic diffusive and specular scattering features that accurately matches the reflectance profile of ten animal fur types. I mainly contributed in establishing the optical importance and properties of fur medulla and thick cuticle scales by running Monte Carlo light transport simulations and conducting gonioreflectometric experiments.

Worked with software engineers and animators on adding new features to and fixing bugs in Premo, the studio’s proprietary animation software used in production. Primarily contributed in designing and implementing a novel fur visualization functionality in Premo with C++, OpenGL and Qt framework.

I participated in improving the "Lighting-By-Guide System" of the Communications and Multimedia Lab. The system aims at alleviating the workloads of lighting artists in 3D computer animation production pipelines through developing an efficient, effective and automatic algorithm which approximates the lighting configuration in a scene from an artistic illustration of the anticipated render. Advised by Professor Yung-Yu Chuang.

I worked on the "Electronic Coherence 2D Spectroscopy" project in the Theoretical Chemistry Group. We ran simulations of 2D electronic spectroscopy experiments and redesigned its pulse sequence along with spectral analysis method, so as to probe electronic coherence and correlations in energy gap fluctuations of chemical systems. Feasibility of the proposal was verified using a time-nonlocal quantum master equation approach. Advised by Professor Yuan-Chung Cheng.
