As a child I fell in love with solving puzzles and was always doing a crossword or jigsaw. Solving a puzzle is all about gathering information, assessing the problem, and focusing your attention. Throughout my life I have transitioned from jigsaws and crosswords to utilizing my love for problem-solving to address gaps in societal resources. I founded a nonprofit organization that provides comfortable hospital wear to cancer patients. During this process I was able to utilize my public speaking skills to receive over $37,000 in start-up capital. Throughout my university degree I have balanced a full course load (3.93 GPA) while also being involved in numerous extracurricular activities. I have a broad skill set covering important facets of business, healthcare management, and not-for-profit strategy. Recently I was part of an international case competition team that developed and presented a fundraising and expansion strategy to a not-for-profit organization in Washington D.C.I strive to use my education to empower students and communities to create meaningful change. I am a strong team player as I bring organizational skills, critical thinking, and a strong work ethic to projects. Furthermore, I have 2+ years of experience working as a teaching assistant at the Haskyane School of Business. Currently, I facilitate tutorials for over 200 students a semester. I have also volunteered at the Priddis Early Learning center over the past 2 years during which time I planned and led arts-based learning sessions for preschool students to bridge educational gaps. Professionally, I have a passion for exploring the nexus between clinical care and global development. I am currently researching the impact childhood illness has on cognitive development in emerging nations. I am on a constant quest to futher my understanding of how we can make the world a better place. I am interested in using my love of problem-solving to apply public health strategies and upstream interventions to the social determinants of health.
