Flight Nurse Manager

A part of this includes the development, implementation, evaluation and review of clinical practice standards, manuals and compliance systems. Accountable for the professional practice of myself and the team, I co-ordinate professional education and development, and provide specific and actionable feedback to staff when required - including the recognition and rewards when someone has visibly developed or improved performance. Deputy Senior Flight Nurse
Supported the Senior Flight Nurse to provide evidence-based practice and ensure safe quality nursing care for all. As DSFN, I supported the coordination and management of nursing by assisting with roster management/coverage, training development, implementation and review, resource/equipment management, employee development and ensuring safety, quality, and risk standards.Co-ordinating the provision of high-quality clinical nursing services to the Flight Nurseteam, I was actively contributing to the development of clinical practice and at times relieving as the Senior Flight Nurse (SFN) when required. I performed some HR functions including the roster management and maintenance of the Flight Nurse roster, recruitment/induction/onboarding of new Flight Nurses and ensured there was an adequate allocation of staffing resources on each shift. As a senior member of the team and a leader, I provided clinical and operational support and advice to the team, engaged, encouraged and mentored, and supported them to take on new challenges and opportunities. Through this role I supported the SFN to address individual and team performance concerns, and training plans for professional development. I educated and encouraged staff to implement, and adhere to, RFDS CO policy, procedure and protocols to ensure best practice and care for our patients. I was accountable for ensuring that our services were delivered and performed to our high standards and legislative requirements. Flight Nurse & Midwife
Delivering high-quality nursing care including assessment, triage, and treatment within the Pilatus PC12 and PC24 Medi-jet. Assessing the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritise the care needed for safe aeromedical transfers of patients from one hospital, remote clinic, station, nursing home to (most often) a tertiary setting. Provision of care for patients of all ages and within a variety of clinical areas. Responsible for conducting the transfer, ensuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum.
Nurse Midwife
As the Primary Midwife, I was co-ordinating care for the provision of antenatal and postnatal care to pregnant women in the community, which also involved the management of their labour and birthing care by the Midwifery Group Practice team in Darwin. I provided management of appointments and transport of pregnant women out of the community for ultrasounds, obstetric referral and to await labour and birth. I delivered midwifery care in obstetric emergencies, such as premature labour and birth, while waiting for aeromedical transfer. As part of this role, I facilitated health education and prevention such as preventative health screening, sexual health screening and Pap smears. I also provided follow-up of positive sexually transmitted infection results and contact tracing. Provision of primary health care and acute health care, including attendance to after-hours call outs and emergency presentations including collection and delivery of patients using the clinic ambulance.As part of this role, I provided remote area nurse consultations, thorough patient assessment, medication prescription and administration, blood pathology collection and nursing and midwifery care. I administered immunisations during pregnancy, postpartum and early childhood. Demonstrating decision making and procedural processes followed using the Minymaku Kutju Tjukurpa Women’s Business Manual and the Central Australian Rural Practitioners Association (CARPA) Standard Treatment Manual. Other parts of this role included:• Screening and support for postnatal depression• Screening and support for domestic and family violence.
