Heading up the delivery of strategic communications activity for both the NHS Confederation and NHS Employers’ work to reduce inequalities in the health service, for both staff and patients, at national level. Leading a talented team of communications professionals and am accountable for the strategy and delivery of the work plan. A typical year includes the delivery of around 40 events and conferences, 5 sector-facing publications, as well as webinars, stakeholder engagement activities and training and development masterclasses for the next generation of diverse leaders, as well as marketing paid-for programmes accounting for a substantial proportion of the department’s annual commercial income.

As the sole communications expert within our team of 5, I lead on all external communications and member engagement activity for the network, producing content for a wide range of traditional and digital channels, including social media, email marketing and press. I effectively distil complex mental health policy information into timely and engaging communications, ensuring that they are supportive of the MHN’s strategic objectives and appropriate for the network’s stakeholders which include the chairs, chief executives and medical directors of mental health provider organisations, service users and carers, politicians, leaders of arms-length bodies and the media. I lead on membership insight for the network, maintaining oversight of recruitment, retention and engagement for all members and am responsible for renewals activity, including the monitoring of membership income.

Led the wholesale digital transformation of a high-profile membership organisation in its 100th year. Implemented an organisation-wide user-focussed content strategy. Introduced CRM segmentation, directly engaging over 52,000 members to take part in a vote on pay.Complete redevelopment and re-platforming of RCN website: management of organisation-wide mentoring and training of staff for complete transformation of digital content strategy.Email marketing transformation, including introduction of behavioural segmentation models and creation of CRM strategy, increasing campaign engagement rates by up to 40%.Creative direction, as manager of multidisciplinary team of 6, of the 2017 RCN Congress Opening Ceremony. Successfully managing senior stakeholders including RCN Chief Executive, President and Chair of Council.
