Mcgill University

Elected VP External in my final year at McGill, I advocated for the interests of Department of English Students Association (DESA) at Arts Undergraduate Student (AUS) Council meetings and shared insights from AUS Council with my fellow DESA executives. Because of my experience amending motions in AUS council and representing the interests of English Undergraduate students, I was approached by the Department of English Professor Association to sit on the committee that amended the Department of English Constitution. I was honoured to be a part of the team and assist in updating such an important document so that it accurately met the rights and needs of English undergraduate students.

As a junior guard in the Parks Board system, I worked at various Outdoor Pool and Beach locations throughout Vancouver from Kits Pool to Third Beach. As a lifeguard, I responded to first aid situations, enforced Parks Board by-laws in order to maintain safe swimming environments and acted as a liaison by responding to question and concerns about swimming areas from the public.

I kept meeting minutes and served as designated mediator in the event of inter-executive conflict. I also organized with my fellow executives events that catered to students and faculty members. These events ranged in size from 20 to 80 participants and required advanced planning so that budgets were made, venues were booked etc. I also assisted with event promotion using social media platforms such as twitter and facebook.

I applied to work at Atlantis because this was where I first learned how to swim and I wanted to be a part of an amazing team of swim instructors. I taught children ages 3 to 12 at a variety of different Red Cross swim levels and planned lessons that met the Red Cross Swim level requirements for swim technique, basic first-aid and lifesaving. I conducted ongoing assessment of swimmers according to Red Cross Swim level standards which culminated in a final evaluation on the swimmer to determine whether he or she was ready for to next level or needed further development.
