During my time at ONS I worked in two teams: Ethnicity, Identity, Religion and Language (EIRL) and Child Health Team (CHT). Whilst working in EIRL, I was involved in the development of questions for the 2021 Census. Tasks involved designing and conducting research through a variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods and collating evidence for the data collection and classification of personal data variables. Stakeholder engagement was a key aspect of this role, meeting monthly to present findings and collaborate with wider government departments.My second and current post is in the Child Health Team where I support the production of births, conceptions and baby names statistics. This includes the development of code in statistical programming software R to manipulate, analyse and quality assure large and sometimes complex datasets for outputs on a regular and Ad Hoc basis. I report findings through presentations and statistical bulletins, adapting the way I present information based on the type of audience, whether that be wider internal colleagues, an enquiring citizen of the general public, academics or members of the wider government. I regularly engage with customers, helping them make the best use of our statistics through answering their questions on standard outputs or conducting additional analysis.

Fareham

Ravenswood House hospital is a medium secure, forensic psychiatric hospital for adult males with mental illnesses. As a Health Care Support Worker, some tasks that were required of me were: building and maintaining strong therapeutic relationships with patients; completing security audits, observing patients hourly to minimise risk to themselves and others; and regularly documenting patients’ risks, behaviours and mood.
