My role involves supporting and developing the English teams across the four secondary schools in the trust. This involves regular meetings with the Heads of Faculty, all of whom are new to post this year. The coaching and support I implement is designed to challenge the HoFs whilst also giving them an opportunity to consider and explore their own innovations and improvements for the departments they lead.As part of this role, I have organised bespoke sessions for the HoFs to attend and work collaboratively with, alongside the Primary Lead for the trust to develop a more streamlined and connected approach. This will manifest into a combined unit of study that will support and improve transition from year 6 to year 7.I am primarily based at one of the schools and this means I am more involved in the development there, as it is where I teach. At Fullbrook, alongside my MAT role I am also the KS5 coordinator for English. Historically the outcomes for English have been low so I have altered the curriculum to improve outcomes, developed staff who teach A Level through training and targeted support including observations, and redeveloped the delivery of coursework and exam skills to boost attainment.

Alongside my role as a teacher, I was also the Head of Faculty, developing the team and our results from a significant negative P8 to a positive result in 2022. I implemented a new system of marking, feedback, and review designed to improve staff workload and student attainment.I led on activities outside of the department including curriculum research and review as part of an update to the whole school subject offer at GCSE and A level. This included the introduction of English Language at A Level which became a popular subject, going from 10 students in the first year to 23 in the third year of offer. Research into the local area identified this as a gap that few schools offered so it became our USP and helped increase student numbers.Part of my role also included a secondment to SLT, where I attended meetings, fed back and decided on policy, supported with safeguarding concerns and issues, and led on changes as part of a whole school drive to improve the culture and ethos.

I completed my NQT year at Thamesmead as a teacher of English. Alongside teaching I also ran a creative writing club, volunteered to support with DofE, and led a World Challenge expedition to Sri Lanka with 16 year 11 pupils.At the end of my NQT year I was promoted to house leader where I worked closely with other house leaders to develop the school community and ethos. Student engagement in the school community for the house I was appointed to had historically been low, so my priority was to increase this across the year groups. in my final year as House Leader, we won the house cup and had the highest engagement across the school. I also led the prefect team, holding meetings and training for the prefects whilst also disciplining and sanctioning as needed.
