Primarily working in the Health Care Centre where prisoners with the most severe mental illnesses resided, whilst running an outpatient’s unit for mental and physical health appointments. Also working on residential wings which house up to 90 prisoners, and escorting prisoners on external visits (such as to hospital). Following strict procedure to move outpatients around the prison, managing expectations for prisoners and maintaining a good rapport with clinicians. Running the inpatient wing required consideration of which prisoners were safe to come out with others according to their mental states. Ensuring everyone received their daily regimes, adhering to time limits for showers, exercise and association. Completing and filing paperwork throughout the day. Understanding the appropriate chain of command, who to contact, and at what point assistance is needed in a turbulent situation. A high risk of volatile behaviour to themselves or others meant a much of the day was spent monitoring behaviour and conversations throughout the day. This also meant being resilient and able to deal with incidents as the first on scene, being a strong communicator to those involved in incidents and working as part of a team to resolve the issues. There is no guidebook on how to deal with each individual circumstance, so being able to think on your feet plays a huge role in the position as a PCO.

Working in a variety of school, nursery and care settings, withchildren ranging between the ages of 2-18 and with varying levelsof required support and assistance. Predominantly 1:1. Assessedstudents' emotional, social, motor, physical and language skills tosupport IAP (Individual Activity Plan). Planning and organisingclassrooms and safe spaces, promoting learning and developmentopportunities with appropriate work resources and sensoryresources. Developing a close working relationship and rapportwith individuals to best understand their day-to-day needs in aneducational setting. Effectively organising individuals’ days toprioritise independence, development and happiness.

Liaising with clients who bring their pets in or phone theveterinary centre, ensuring that they receive the most efficient andpleasant customer service possible. Being responsible forresponding to clients' inquiries and concerns, managing andescalating complaints to the appropriate department, andaccurately processing their service requests. Issuing refunds asneeded, scheduling appointments, and supporting theorganisation's policies and procedures to ensure client satisfactionand maintaining a good reputation.

Assisting with personal care such as washing and dressing,consistently promoting positive health and hygiene. Promotingpersonal wellbeing and independence. Monitoring mood andbehaviour and reporting any incidents. Continuously promotingbest practices in health, safety and security to safeguard serviceuser welfare. Applying organisational skills and planning toensure appropriate and timely administration of medication andaccurate record keeping of medications. Using time managementskills to organise not only my own working day but service users’days and often agency workers that are employed without priorexperience in care.Arranging and taking service users out to appointments andactivities. Building service user confidence through social andcommunity interaction. Providing support in social, physical, andemotional areas to assist clients with integration into the localcommunity. Using excellent communication and interpersonalskills to engage and interact with individuals. Deliveringhigh-quality care to individuals with varying needs, tailoringsupport to meet personalised care plans.Contacting doctors and other clinicians for any external needs..Monitoring individuals’ progress, continuously updating andadjusting care plans to meet health and wellbeing needs.Effectively managing daily finances for service users andday-to-day paperwork such as fire safety testing, health and safetychecks and legionella risk assessments.
