My current role as a Paralegal in a Mental Health and Capacity firm involves a range of duties. I maintain a caseload under supervision and some of my duties include: compiling Court bundles in line with the Court of Protection practice directions, drafting and updating briefs to counsel, drafting case management and third party disclosure orders, attending Court hearings, reviewing disclosure, arranging round table meetings, taking minutes, update the Official Solicitor and and liaise with third parties and Clients’ family members.I review disclosure from a wide range of third parties such care homes, the relevant NHS Foundation Trust, General Practitioners, The Office of the Public Guardian etc in order to summarise key documents and incidents and critically analyse any concerns arising from such records. These summaries will be sent onto counsel in briefing them ahead of hearings with issues arising to be discussed at hearings and also round table meetings.

My role was to primarily answer the phone to potential clients, taking their details and case information to be passed onto the relevant solicitor. I undertook general administrative duties, observing meetings between the client and solicitor then discussing internally with our solicitor and with the client on the next steps. Cases would involve landlord-tenant issues, immigration, employment disputes and family issues.
