First Class BSc Education Graduate from the University of Southampton and current PhD student. My research considers how we can improve the way we screen for behaviours associated with autism. My ambition is to establish a means for screening that is more equitable, fair and accessible. Upon leaving college, my interest in education led me to train as as an apprentice teaching assistant. From there, I worked as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant and began to specialise in areas of social and emotional learning, pastoral assistance and working with children defined as having special educational needs and disabilities. I was part of one of the early cohorts of qualified Emotional Learning Support Assistants (ELSA) to work in Hampshire, leading the provision in my setting for children aged 4-11. I eventually progressed to work as an unqualified year 3 teacher before beginning my studies at the University of Southampton, where I also worked as Student President of the Education School from 2020-2022. I am a Co-founder of the Partnership for Educational Reform. The Partnership for Educational Reform is a student interest group that arose out of a need to address decolonisation, racial equity and inclusion in Higher Education Institutions within the UK. We hoped that by establishing this group, we could provide scope for critical reflection on our current practices in HE. This is to ensure our current programmes do not uphold institutional, systemic racism while providing our graduates (many of whom will go on to teach) with the key skills needed to engage in conversations about racism and diversity in schools and with children.My personal interests include:Advanced Quantitative Research Methods Inclusion, Social Justice and Education for allResearch with Autistic people and their families Student Partnership
