- Utilised innovative 3D cell culture assay to identify the most effective cancer treatments in a personalised treatment plan for each patient at small startup company.- Responsible for processing patient blood and tissue samples following company protocols and standard operating procedures. - Involved in the company’s current clinical trial, as well as performing tests for commercial patients.- Other laboratory techniques utilised include drug dilutions, drug dosing, literature searches, cell counting, cell imaging, cell survival/death assays, cryopreservation of cells. - Worked collaboratively with chief scientist to develop novel experiments and protocols.- Recording patient data in a confidential and organised structure. - Founded and developed the company’s Instagram account with responsibility for creating content and increasing awareness of the company. - Regularly performed stock checks and maintained lab supplies.- Supervised/trained intern on sample processing, cell culture, drug dosing techniques and use of equipment. - Liaised with research nurses to organise transportation of samples from hospital to laboratory. - Awarded Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP) for Clinical Research certificate.

I worked as a part time associate during my undergraduate and MRes degree. Key responsibilities and skills developed during this role have involved:- Providing excellent customer service to TK Maxx customers. - Communicating with members of the public from different backgrounds and age groups. - Helping to train new associates. - Maintaining high quality store appearance. - Promoting our 'Treasure card' scheme, which offers our customers rewards when they make purchases. - Raising money for charities such as Cancer Research UK Comic Relief.

I was selected to complete a six-week studentship at the MRC Centre for Drug Safety Science, supervised by Professor Chris Goldring. The project was funded by the Institute of Translational Medicine at the University of Liverpool. This project involved characterising the expression of γ-H2AX and Topoisomerase I in 2D and 3D (spheroid) models of colorectal cancer, in response to treatment with irinotecan or the active metabolite SN38. This comparison of 2D and 3D models aimed to determine the physiological relevance of 3D spheroid models in research. Skills I acquired during this project include: - Adherent cell culture (Colorectal cancer cell lines). - Western blotting.- Poster production and presentation to undergraduate students and other academic supervisors.
