As part of my Bachelor degree studies, I was chosen as part of an exclusive group of students to participate in a prestigious design internship in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan. Whilst in Tokyo, I immersed myself in the city's vibrant cultural design scene, exploring museums, neighbourhoods and design offices as part of research. The aim of this project was to ‘Translocate’ Contemporary innovations from Geelong to a Japanese audience, in Nagoya, by exploring links between both cities and more broadly Australia and Japan. The time spent in Tokyo as part of research led to the creation of an art instillation in Nagoya, a UNESCO City of Design. During my internship, I worked closely with industry professionals from across the globe in a dynamic, small team, focusing on creatively connecting the cities of Nagoya and Geelong by highlighting their historical and modern innovations. This experience sharpened my design skills and expanded my understanding of international design practices and cross-cultural collaboration. This industry experience showcased the world of design beyond digital outcomes expanding my understanding and ability to research, collate, design and build a gallery installation to showcase this 'Translocation'.My group worked on the theme of electro and energy materials, exploring the history of innovation and manufacturing in both cities and the context on a global stage. The result, a sculpture and moving artistic piece called culture echo ensemble.Culture echo ensemble is a captivating and innovative artistic expression that celebrates the diversity and richness of culture. Through a fusion of materials, movement and light thus creating energy, this piece displays the intertwined cultures and uses of electro materials.
