Team Leader Tourism Operations And Visitor Information Centre

Traralgon, Victoria, Australia

I lead a Tourism team of five Tourism Officers and nine Volunteers to provide tourism and lifestyle information for locals, visitors and potential residents. Assisting the Tourism Coordinator in ongoing Tourism projects such as strategy development, promotions and external partnerships is also a large part of this role. The Latrobe Visitor Information Centre is to be relocating to the Latrobe Creative Precinct in 2021. There have been various degrees of anxiety in the team related to this move. I have used my leadership and communication skills to implement change management and create a positive team environment in which to transition. Developing new systems for digital information storage and management as well as practical changes in how information is presented to the customer has been a priority, and I have arranged IT training for the volunteers in order to upskill them to a level which will enable a better customer experience at the new location. The whole team of officers and volunteers has responded positively and enthusiastically to the transition preparation initiatives.Maintaining relationships with external stakeholders such as tourism operators and other Latrobe City stakeholders and businesses is a key part of enabling the Latrobe Visitor Information Centre to successfully promote local attractions and activities. The Tourism team also supports internal stakeholders such as the Latrobe City Events team in many capacities, including the management of social media and website, events-related accommodation planning and venue selection. My manager has recognised the way in which I have developed and improved the relationship between the Tourism team with the Events team and also Latrobe City Communications, noting in particular that inter-teams communication is now positively cooperative and consistent
