As a lifelong musician, everything that I do within accounting and finance revolves around two key pillars: (1) a love of technical, data-driven deep dives and (2) an equal love for presenting final deliverables live. I hope to use these pillars to benefit stakeholders and clients through a dual focus on efficient preparation and assertive delivery.1. The deep dives I do, from Excel to Alteryx, are like practicing my instrument. I love searching for unexpected ways to infuse my own “artistic touch” in analyses without sacrificing timeliness. This is possible thanks to my focus on streamlining my own workflows: I invest at least fifteen percent of my time in this stage establishing more efficient methods of working. One can’t just practice hard: one has to practice smart.2. Presentation and public speaking are like playing a concert for me. Having performed time and again for enormous audiences, I am exceptionally adept at communicating authoritative client-facing presentations regardless of my degree of preparation. And if unexpected contingencies occur, I can rework my delivery on a moment’s notice. No matter what, “the show must go on.”Moving forward, I hope to apply my approaches to preparation and delivery to transaction advisory.
