About Choki Wangmo
Award-winning independent journalist and a communication professional based in Thimphu, Bhutan. After earning a degree in Sustainable Development, I spent over four years with Kuensel, Bhutan’s national newspaper, as an environment and agriculture reporter, feature writer, and later as a Sub-Editor. I am also Mongabay’s Environmental Reporting Fellow. Honors include the Balipara Foundation’s Green Journalist Award in the Eastern Himalayan Region (2023), Bhutan’s Best Climate Change Story award (2022), and multiple grants from the Bhutan Media Foundation and Journalists Association of Bhutan. A National Geographic-trained photojournalist, I have attended the Photocamp series in Bhutan and Washington DC.In my free time, I enjoy hiking, reading, and writing prose.
