About Greg Cholmondeley
I think a part of me will always be an engineer because I love to take problems and solutions, figure out what is really important, and come up with useful ways to solve, explain or use them. In the early years of my career I did this with electronics design and software programming. Now, I focus on developing and delivering go to market plans on how to apply, sell and market technology to resolve business issues. I’m still usually in front of a computer, but now I’m developing relevant marketing campaigns, writing blogs & analytical reports, hosting webinars, speaking at conferences & training sessions, and developing video product briefings & case studies for marketing & sales training. My passion to deliver solutions which change people's business and lives is still strong. When I worked as an electrical and software engineer, I loved learning what customers were trying to do and then designing systems to assist them. When I worked as a marketing manager at various technology vendors, I relished seeing how a wide variety of client operations tried (or needed to try) to implement technologies and helping them be successful. Most recently, as a workflow analyst, I’ve been able to consult with numerous technology vendors as well as throughout their markets. I get to apply my experience and my analytical and compositional skills as I track the industry and translate real-life daily struggles into solvable problem statements. And, I get to do the same when I translate various products’ specs into meaningful discussions on which of those problems each can solve and how.I guess that’s my strength and my passion. I love to identify, clarify and solve problems that have a real impact on people’s lives and businesses. And, seeing the resulting business impacts in sales and productivity sure is a nice reward.

Programmer
I held jobs with the university throughout my entire time in college, and they were all related to computer science and engineering. For my first two years I worked at the computer center as a programming consultant. This meant that students, grad students and faculty would bring in their toughest problems to be solved during my office hours. Being able to jump in and figure out the causes and solutions to dozens of coding issues every day in Fortran, LISP, Forth, COBOL, SNOBOL, Basic, JCL, and other popular programming languages of the day was exhilarating. Later, when working at the University of Rochester Laboratory for Laser Energetics, I wrote code to control the facility interlocks, build a microcode assembler, and had the opportunity to publish papers in peer-reviewed academic journals. I think I learned as much about how to solve problems in a crisis mode and how to explain advanced technology to people during these part-time and summer jobs as I did with my formal education.
