Student Research Assistant For The Department Of Information Technology
In a research lab with Project PI Dr. Yingfeng Wang and Co-PI Dr. Myungjae Kwak, we focused on molecule fragmentation (particularly fragmentation relevant to mass spectrometry). I tested a server that helps students understand fragmentation through 2D and 3D modeling. I created a program written in Python that wraps MetFrag (a library written in Java), used PyQt5 for our GUIs, and created programs that parse .mgf files & .FT2 files for the peak lists to output the SMILES notation of the fragments, the images of the fragments, and graphs of the peaks. Besides the bioinformatics tandem mass spectrometry project, we planned to write code for a map of the campus that includes the types of buildings, the functions of the buildings, and the locations of the vending machines, restrooms, and other facilities. However, the COVID-19 pandemic brought an end to our research.
