About Dan Rice
Currently you can hear my reports on WCBS-TV (Chopper 2) and WNYW (SkyFOX) in the afternoons in New York City. You can also “fly along” with me each weekday through the stations’ Facebook pages! I am a 4 time local EMMY® award winner and the recipient of a New York State Broadcasters Association award.In addition, if you’ve watched any sporting event on television, there is a very good chance you have seen my work. Since August 2014 I have been a videographer covering major sporting events from various aerial platforms. I have covered everything from MLB, NBA, NFL and NCAA games to motorsports (NASCAR, INDYCAR and IMSA), PGA Tour and the US Tennis Open. I was also the aerial videographer for the 2015 Inaugural College Football Playoffs National Championship Game, which drew the largest ratings for a cable television event at the time. My work has aired nationally on ESPN, Turner Sports, FOX Sports, CBS Sports and The NBC Sports Group. I have spent over 32 years in the New York City market covering news and traffic. I was the lead chopper reporter for close to ten years in WNBC's Chopper 4. Even after WNBC grounded their helicopter, I continued to work per diem for the NBC Television Network (TODAY, MACY'S Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular and MACY'S Thanksgiving Day Parade) and I worked in Philadelphia, filling-in on the LNS (WCAU/WTXF) chopper. I was also the midday reporter/photographer in NewsCopter 7 on WABC-TV for close to five years.Along with doing video and live reports on a daily basis for "Today In New York," I have also reported on numerous breaking news stories for MSNBC and NBC News. I was also the aerial photographer for several broadcasts on the NBC television network including "TODAY," "The Tonight Show," "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade," "Macy's Fireworks Spectacular," "Christmas at Rockefeller Center," "NBC Nightly News," "NBA Playoffs," and "Fast Money" along with syndicated talk shows "Ellen" and "The Rosie O'Donnell Show."I absolutely enjoy what I do and I would, someday, love to break into the field of voice overs.

I have worked in the MetLife, DirecTV and Hood blimps as well as airplanes with CBS Sports, The NBC Sports Group, ESPN, Fox Sports, NESN and Turner Sports. My specialty is motorsports having worked numerous NASCAR and IMSA events as well as the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500. I was also at the camera controls for Goodyear's aerial coverage of the Inaugural CFP National Championship Game on ESPN...at the time the highest rated program in cable TV history with close to 33.4 million people watching.

I was a reporter/photographer in NewsCopter 7 for WABC-TV, New York. I primarily worked the midday shift and, when needed, reported on Eyewitness News First at Four, at Five and at Six. One of the biggest stories I had to cover in my time there was the fatal derailment of a Metro North Train in December 2013.

I was the morning chopper reporter and photographer in Chopper 4 for WNBC until they grounded the helicopter in favor of a shared services contract. Additionally, I provided reports on breaking news stories for MSNBC and provided most of the aerial shots in and around New York City for TODAY and NBC News. During my tenure, I was employed by several helicopter vendors, including Helicopters, Inc., HeliNet, Horsham Valley Airways and Aerial Films.
