As an Intern Product Engineer, my primary focus was to design the piping system of large-scale Gensets. Through implementing Engineering Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics learnt at University, I sized all pipework and Genset components to within industry standards/guidelines; and created a comprehensive P&ID of the Genset, showing clearly all the sensors and components being used. I liaised with suppliers to properly quote and spec components to the specified requirements, and to the requirements of my colleagues working in other Engineering disciplines/Departments. I also conducted on-site CHP problem solving. Through collating as much information as possible from our servers, I sorted through the trove of data to create detailed graphs showing the CHP parameters that is measured by on-board sensors (such as temperature, pressure, heat values, etc.), to find the root of the problem. I then composed a comprehensive report of the situation highlighting the problem, explanations as to why the problem occurred, and a possible contingency plan to swiftly resolve the issue.I believe taking the year out in industry has allowed me to mature as an engineer, as well as attaining the transferable teamwork skills, interpersonal skills, and the personal confidence required to become a distinguished engineer.
