This was an invitation-only volunteer position. The RDs were evangelists chosen for their visibility and reputation in the Microsoft.NET software development community. There were 14 RDs in Canada that year and 140 in the world. Most were rock stars with multiple books out. Not sure how I got into that crew but it was fun for a year.

Freedom Intelligence developed and marketed a database engine specialized for data warehousing ("big data"). The founders had in the past been the developers of an indexing system for the Oxford English Dictionary (UW, mid 1980's). They had subsequently founded OpenText, which was an early developer of web search technology. Yahoo used OpenText's search.
