About Christopher (Chris) Hughes (大電機)
With a career over 25 years spanning enterprise software, managed services and of course payments, I've worked for a number of global organisations, and worked and lived in various cities including San Francisco, Singapore, and now back home here in Sydney. I've had the privilege of working closely with some of the world's biggest / best known brands - Alibaba, Shein, Woolworths, Amazon, Binance, Qantas and 100's of others, solving their payments and fraud requirements to grow their businesses.I joined Mastercard in December ’22 as the Head of our Retail and Commerce team, leading the team that partner with our largest merchant clients, located in Australia. I joined from Woolworths’ fintech business - Wpay, where I was the Head of Merchant Payments and Gifting – servicing Australia's largest retailer's group of brands and external merchant clients in Fuel, Liquor and Hospitality for all their in-store and online payment needs. Prior to that, I led Visa's digital acceptance business across Asia Pacific (based in Singapore), and its merchant and acquirer acceptance business here in Australia/NZ/South Pacific (based in Sydney) prior to that. I've studied at the Chicago Booth Business School and the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) and am a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). I was a Non-Executive Director on the eftpos board (now AP+), and have held a number of advisory board roles with payment companies including Live Payments, Optty, Karta and FOBOH.
