These contracts involved working for clients of both Medicals Direct and me in a self-employed capacity. Products worked on being Life, Critical Illness and Income Protection to various levels of authority (generally to a senior underwriter level). Work was either undertaken from being based in the client’s office (Friends Provident, Scottish Widows, RBS and Lincoln Life), or from Medicals Direct’s office in Liverpool at the time. As well as performing the required expected underwriting roles, there was also a need to be flexible in meeting and assessing ongoing customer needs, identifying opportunities or potential issues and resolving problems to the customer’s satisfaction and enabling contracts to extend beyond their initial parameters. As part of the RBS work, for some 18 months I was responsible for auditing the in-house underwriters work (approximately 300 audits per month).
