Project management and delivery of a range of interventions, programmes, resources etc. designed to raise achievement and increase entry to university. Specialising in working with school and college pupils who reside in the 40% most deprived wards in Derbyshire and Derby City. Tackling issues such as low aspirations, low motivation, lack of confidence and underachievement. This work included: Working in partnership with senior managers in schools to implement intervention strategies linked to school improvement plans which raised the achievement and aspirations of pupils. Developing and delivering staff development programmes for teachers and college lecturers, including raising motivation, building self esteem, tackling the ‘anti-achievement’ culture in schools, creativity, critical thinking skills, learning theories and memory techniques. Designing GCSE and A Level study skills programmes and training staff in the delivery of these. Using up to date research from Cognitive Psychology and Neuroscience to improve memory and revision techniques, personal effectiveness, motivation, confidence, stress management and exam preparation. Project Manager for the ‘Raising the Grade’ GCSE Maths achievement raising initiative. Coaching undergraduate mentors and training them in the use of coaching skills for use with school pupils and college students. Developing peer academic coaching programmes, incorporating up to date coaching theory.
