I have had the privilege of working as a Company Manager and Associate Company Manager on several Broadway and Off-Broadway productions over the past seven years and have worked on several professional productions in other administrative capacities for the last eleven years. It is through these various positions that I have gained an intricate knowledge and comprehension of how to successfully administer live theatre from a show’s early development through its completion. Last year, I took my first step into Broadway General Management and cannot be happier with the work and more proud of the production I am currently working on, DISASTER! at the Nederlander Theatre. It is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I have ever taken on. As always, I believe that it is a deep connection to the work you do and to the people you work with that sets you apart in theatrical administration. The measure of an administrator should not rest solely in their coordinating and multitasking abilities but also in how well they connect, on a personal and professional level, with those who imagine, construct, perform and produce the show for which they put so much effort into creating. It’s about reaching out to actors to check on them when they are sick, or walking a 50 lb. printer up seven blocks so that your Stage Managers can print during tech, or calling people to discuss questions they have about their contracts so that they know that you care about their concerns. It is through this approach that an administrator achieves real success and is something I strive for every day.
