I am excited about pursuing a new position as an advisor for TelmyVet. TelmyVet is a Canadian company that has designed a virtual care platform specifically for veterinary practices and to aid the veterinary team in providing continuity of care for their patients. This virtual care platform will improving access to veterinary services and utilizing technology to positively impact animal welfare and the quality of life for veterinary teams. I believe this technology can be a great asset to assist in solving the current work shortage and mental health challenges facing veterinary professionals.My experience as a veterinary practice owner and general practitioner for over 30 years has given me an in depth knowledge of the veterinary profession complete with its many challenges and rewards, which will assist in the development and evolution of Telmyvet. I am proud to have served on the the College of Veterinarians of B.C. (CVBC) for 5 years culminating as its president in 2013. Working with the CVBC has greatly enhanced my knowledge with respect to professional regulations and regulatory organizations.I have gained many additional skills and insights having been a council member for 6 years (2015-2022) with the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and a member of its National Issues committee. During that same time I participated as an active board member for the Society of B.C. Veterinarians (SBCV).My experience as a director with the SBCV, gave me a perspective from a members services point of view on the requirements and pressures on practicing veterinarians. During this tenure, with years of continued efforts, the SBCV convinced the BC government in 2022, to permanently financially support an additional 20 BC students to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. This doubling of B.C. veterinary students and graduation of now 40 BC veterinarians, will undoubtably aid in improving the veterinary shortage. These two valuable veterinary organizations, presented many opportunities to utilize my expertise and knowledge as a well respected general practitioner and practice owner to give back to an incredible profession.Growing up and living in B.C. gave me a passion for the the environment and in particular the mountains. I am currently a CSIA and PSIC level 3 ski instructor, Level 1 course conductor. I continue to enjoy teaching skiing at Whistler Blackcomb for over 25 years and sharing my experiences skiing with others.
