Who am I? I enjoy helping people make companies internally and externally better. You cannot be a good company if you are not helping people be better leaders. As leaders we are stewards of assets given to us to protect, preserve and enhance. The greatest asset we have as a leader is our stewardship of people. I realized later in my career it’s not the company’s job, it’s the most important role I have. After reading a plethora of business books searching for the formula for leadership I learned there is no formula only to be intentional at being a leader. Define and be the leader you want to be, rather than who you happen to be. Many companies spend time off site developing annual strategies. Frequently these make it into binders onto shelves of executives until next year. I believe in keeping things simple, less > more. Strategic planning is not an event it is an going process, the strategy should live in the minds and hearts of the people. The best strategy is one that can be communicated in its simplest form for all to understand. I have learned the importance of transparency in organizations to build trust. As Stephen Covey said “High trust is a dividend, low trust a tax”, high trust environments yield stronger results. This has led me to understand that leaders should be consistent in how they treat people to build trust. Consistent leaders provide a safe environment for transparency, thus building trust. It’s not all ‘unicorns & butterflies ‘an intentional approach to leadership produces results as the outcome. When we serve our people they become better and serve clients better. Well served clients improve our results.
