Seconded into Pfizer Global Drug Safety (Compound Safety Prediction Group) to analyse internal drug safety data and create improved knowledge that could be used within drug design. Specific objective to reduce attrition of small molecules through poor solubility, toxicity or unacceptable pharmacokinetics.

Lead chemist responsible for the chemistry strategy and the delivery of new agents across a number of therapeutic areas. Designing novel compounds, directing a team of internal and contract chemists, coordinating studies including efficacy, selectivity, drug metabolism, safety and chemical stability. Ensuring appropriate patent-protection strategies were in place. Reduce to practice chemistry to enable the efficient production of antibody conjugates and peptide libraries in addition to small molecules.

Chemistry lead for Pfizer’s global exploratory anti-infective programs. Directed team of internal and external synthetic and medicinal chemists, defined target objectives and ensured leads were developed against these criteria to enable full internal project resourcing to be sought.
