My role at the European Parliament began with the development of an in-house designed MS SQL database, used for analytics, forensics and diagnostics of messaging systems.Additionally I have been responsible for administering a number of 3rd party databases.Database work has been a mix of T-SQL/ SSIS/ PowerShell development, with hardware and database environment tuning for resilience and performance.With time the in-house system has grown to hold 30TB of data, and has been an invaluable tool in diagnosing messaging issues.In addition to SQL database work, I have been heavily involved in a number of other projects.MS Exchange Migration 2003-2010 / 2010 -2016Implementation of 3rd party MS Exchange toolsDevelopment of supplementary exchange tools.

Initially recruited as a databases developer, working on a project to design an in-house reservations system.This system included financial reporting, staff commission wage payments, flights and a bilingual multi-currency CMS. To this day, the company still uses this database in-house and for the website jamesvillas.co.uk.This role quickly grew to include operational DBA responsibilities, ownership of all data from ingress, storage, manipulation and reporting, including the data platform, managing a small team of developer / administrators.Driven by the need for high availability and performance, my role expanded to include management of all IT infrastructure across multiple sites.
