Chris is a highly experienced community musician and music educator; having worked with many well-known community, education and arts organisations, such as Opera North, Manchester Camerata, National Centre for Early Music, Sing Up, Accessible Arts & Media, etc, etc.As part of the team for the new York St John University International Centre for Community Music (ICCM), Chris' current research focus is on the uses of music for promoting health and wellbeing, with a particular interest in the physical, mental and social benefits of singing. In this context, as part of Converge (a YSJU and NHS partnership developing creative project for mental health service users) he directs 'Communitas', a community choir for mental health service users and York St John students.As a community music and education trainer, Chris has led a wide variety of workshops - shadow puppet plays, music and movement, junk instruments, music and education, early years - for Musicleader, NYMAZ, etc. He was a Facilitator for Sing Up,a Trainer for the Trinity College/Guildhall KS2 Music CPD Programme (Wider Opportunities). At York St John University Chris runs modules in Music in the Community, Drumming, Improvisation, Music Ensembles, and directs both samba bands.Chris is a trumpeter in the band 'Jeromes' (www.jeromes.org.uk) and a singer and acoustic guitar player as one half of 'To the Blue' (www.reverbnation.com/totheblue).
