Latino Art NOW formed to address the need for an organization to enable newly emerging and established artists within the Multnomah County Latino Community to utilize a noncommercial option for artistic expression primarily in the visual arts. Our work and shows have focused on providing networking opportunities for Latino Artists to collaborate within a context of traditional and emerging artistic ideas. Latino Art Now builds upon the richness within our community and engenders a dialogue for shared and individual pursuits. Our collaboration and shows challenge presumptions of what Latino Art is, by creating pieces and performance that takes the audience to a new level of awareness of the possibilities of what constitutes art and, also, the places and spaces where art takes root and flourishes – beyond galleries and walls to the everyday spaces in which art represents culture, spirituality, and meaning for Latinos in the Americas and particularly for us, the Pacific Northwest. Received grant from RACC in 2012 and will host a series of Platicas with the community in Spring/Summer of 2013.
