I provided representation and advocacy for GMB members working for Assembly Members in discussions with the National Assembly for Wales Commission and the Remuneration Board as well as individual Assembly Members in their role as employers.

Provide effective managerial, political and community support to the Assembly Member.Manage other team members reporting to the Assembly Member, including the recruitment and supervision of staff, performance management and other personnel related issues as required.Provide a comprehensive research, secretarial, casework and administrative support service, as required and co-ordinate office activities to ensure that telephone and electronic enquiries and visitors are dealt with appropriately and professionally.Draft and sign letters on behalf of the Assembly Member on a range of issues. Liaise with local and national stakeholders on issues of interest to the Assembly Member and his constituents. Supervise those staff undertaking casework and final responses to constituents.Ensure that the constituency office conforms to all health, safety and welfare requirements. Ensure compliance with data protection legislation and Assembly Standing Orders to protect the Assembly Member.Manage the Assembly Member’s diary, make travel arrangements and ensure that all engagements are organised professionally and manage and oversee office budgets.Design materials promoting the work of the Assembly Member and execute delivery.Liaise with Assembly Commission staff, other Assembly Members and Ministers on relevant mattersRepresent the member in a professional and effective manner in dealings with the media, constituents and other outside bodies.

As a member of Labour’s press office staff, I helped to implement Labour’s regional media strategy for the 2010 General Election. I worked alongside the Head of Regional Media and a team of Regional Communications Officers across the UK to organise and run national and regional lobby briefings and regional radio and broadcast rounds with the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers and high profile endorsers.

As finance director I co-ordinated the funding for Huw Lewis' leadership campaign ensuring compliance with legislation and rules and guidance from Welsh Labour and the Electoral Commission. I ensured that the campaign received donations from supporters nation-wide and the timely payment of bills and staff and volunteer expenses.

Labour County Councillor for the Penrhiwceiber Ward. I worked with a large number of community groups and individuals as well as regional and national organisations to represent my constituents. As a member of numerous council committees including Overview and Scrutiny Committee, I held the council’s cabinet to account on issues affecting the county borough as a whole.
