The business comprised of 6 Waste transfer stations (WTS) handling in excess of 1M t.p.a., 5 household waste recycling centres (HWRC) approx 1600 t.p.a, 6 Material Recycling Facilities (MRF's), over 200k t.p.a and Cleanaway's compliance scheme Cleanapack. In addition, I directly managed the River Thames transfer operations, transferring 800k tonnes of container waste by river from London to Essex.. I was a regular participant in board meeting, advising and influencing the Company's UK strategy. I commenced working for LBTH in the Borough Engineers Dept and progressed rapidly through a number of roles gaining experience in managing projects, contracts, budgets, procedures and policies. I became the main policy adviser to the council on all waste and environmental issues including strategy and the Council's representative on government working groups. I also held responsibility for contract preparation, procurement, evaluation and award. In my final position as Head of Waste Services, I was responsible for the management of all waste activities. i.e. Waste disposal, recycling, refuse collection, street cleaning, hazardous waste, clinical waste and fly tipping controlling a £60M budget.
