Senior Mechatronics Engineer
Mechanical & Control Systems Engineer
As a mechanical and control systems engineer, I am involved in projects from start to finish. I work on a team of engineers to design, build and test custom robotic systems to fulfill clients' needs. My dual background of mechanical and control systems engineering allows me to play several different roles on projects and help facilitate communication between the various technical teams. This background also affords me the opportunity to view projects from both the component- and systems-level so I make design decisions with a more complete view. On the pure mechanical side, responsibilities include mechanism design, simulation and analysis (using CAD, FEA, MATLAB/Simulink, and Mathcad) and machine shop prototyping and modifications using the mill and lathe. I'm skilled in all aspects of the design cycle, beginning with the derivation of requirements, concept generation, component and system design, software analysis of performance, part tolerancing, component modification, system assembly and testing. On the controls side, my work involves designing and implementing custom controllers to control linear and non-linear systems. I am skilled at system modeling and identification of dynamic systems for controller design and general performance evaluation. I generate models to simulate system performance in all energy domains (mechanical, electrical, thermal, and so on) and design controllers to satisfy requirements including response time, steady-state error, disturbance rejection, and more.
Engineering Intern
-Designed testing equipment for a new pressure transducer technology and performed tests to characterize performance-Researched and tested material bonding methods that can withstand high temperatures
Robert A.W. Carleton Strength Of Materials Laboratory Lab Assistant (Class Iii)
- Conduct large-scale strength of materials testing for construction projects using Instron and MTS testing machines- Assist in machining on mill, lathe, drill, etc.
Research Assistant In Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory
- Investigated heat transfer properties of aluminum foam during laser forming using high resolution infrared camera- Created FEA models in Abaqus to simulate laser forming process and compared results to captured data in MATLAB- Machined parts for experimental setup
