About Chris Boyd

I am an experienced business leader who has over 18 years of experience in impact measurement and evaluation. I have held several leadership positions in global organisations and have extensive experience of leading and motivating diverse, multi-cultural teams. I have led the growth and development of three research and evaluation consultancy businesses in my career to date, Upper Quartile LLP, WYG International’s MEL Division, and most recently, EDI Global. In all these roles I have driven the business development efforts while assuring the technical quality and rigour of the products delivered to clients. Prior to taking over as Managing Director at EDI Global, I led the results and organisational performance division of TradeMark East Africa covering all East African Community countries as well as Ethiopia, Somaliland, South Sudan, Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique.

    Summary: EDI Global is a research, data collection and MEL consultancy with operations in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.     Achievements- Designed and led the introduction of an organisational performance system based on the Objective Key Results (OKR) approach.- Developed a monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) strategy which identified the key results, evidence and learning priorities for TMEA and its donors, and secured the funding required to deliver these objectives. - Led the mobilisation of the organisation to achieve an ‘A’ rating (performance meets expectations) in the annual review undertaken by TMEA’s donors in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. - Internally led a $US 5m four-year independent evaluation of TMEA’s first phase (2010 – 2017) providing the evaluation team with access to all the information and stakeholders required to complete this in-depth work. Responsibilities - Lead, motivate and develop a team of 11 staff in Nairobi, Kenya and Kampala, Uganda- Provide strategic direction to the organisation on how it should organise itself to deliver the development impacts TMEA’s investors desire.- Regularly update TMEA’s main investors (DFID, USAID, EU, Netherlands, Canada, DANIDA, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Norway) on the development results being achieved with their funding.- Reflect and embed evolving investor priorities in the TMEA results framework and theories of change (i.e. greater inclusion, climate change sensitivity, resilience).- Work with TMEA’s senior leadership team to set corporate annual objectives and break these down into quarterly key results to be cascaded across the organisation. - Lead organisational preparation for the annual review exercise.- Lead and quality assure the reporting of TMEA’s quarterly, bi-annual and annual development results to its ten investors.- Design and direct all TMEA-commissioned independent evaluations. - Liaise with TMEA’s communications team to provide up-to-date results for dissemination.- Lead role in designing communications campaigns on TMEA’s key results achievements for a broad range of audiences
