MemberThe Spa Surgery Patient Participation Group Sep 2021 - PresentHarrogateGP Surgeries have a contractual requirement to have a Patient Participation Group. The group should be made up of patients, senior managers, and GP's/clinicians. Their aim is to create positive change and improvement in patient care by advising the practice of the patient perspective and expectations. Critically it must be Patient, not Practice driven, so as not to become anything more than a 'talking shop'. The Spa Surgery group is in the organisational 'forming' stage and with the appointment of other officers in the near future will enable further development to take place. Quantifiable improvements will take time. A 3 year period to prove value is achievable. https://www.thespasurgery.co.uk/about-us/have-your-say/patient-participation-group/

We receive no public funding and rely on the generosity of those within in the industry to help us continue our vital work. https://www.lighthouseclub.org/what-we-do/ (I became a member in 1978. At that time we were also members of the Eccentric Club...) -
National & Local Place Team AssessorHarrogate And District Nhs Foundation Trust May 2014 - PresentHarrogatePLACE stands for Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment. Local PLACE assessments are conducted by Patient volunteers who visit Hospital Wards, Facilities and Departments, to assess the standard, quality and 'user (Patient) friendly' nature of the facility including the condition of the infrastructure. There is also an annual NHS/CQC requirement for an in- depth assessment which contributes to the National NHS Trust quality process. -
Member - Patient Voice Group - Harrogate & District Nhs Foundation TrustHarrogate And District Nhs Foundation Trust Jul 2011 - Jan 2018Harrogate, England, United KingdomThe PVG - Patient Voice Group - represented patients who were treated and were involved with Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, (HDFT) across all disciplines, including in-patients, out-patients, staff and users of all the facilities and services provided by the Trust. It was dissolved in 2019.I hope to help recreate a 'Patient Voice Group' type organisation with the Trust. The need for the patient voice to be heard has never been greater - particularly considering recent disputes and on-going structural, waiting lists, funding, management challenges and more. Three exploratory meetings have taken place. However, there is a new central initiative - creating PSP's - Patient Safety Partners. (Every Trust will have to appoint PSP's). As a result this initiative has been put on hold. The Patient Safety Partners focus will be on safety - their remit being wholly different from a Patient Voice Group. The Trust intends to launch the PSP initiative before potentially expanding patient representation with a wider remit. Please feel free to contact me if you have an interest in improving patient care - their voice - via a representative independent volunteer organisation. -
