It Service Desk Team Leader

Litchfield, England, United Kingdom

As the IT Service Desk Team Leader at Voyage Care, I managed a team of 7 skilled 1st and 2nd line IT support analysts, providing exceptional technical support to over 14,000 users across 300 UK sites, ensuring smooth operations and great customer service.1st line managed user accounts in Active Directory (AD) and Azure Active Directory (AAD), supporting Microsoft technologies such as Windows 10, and the Microsoft 365 suite. They also supported other software and services such as HP managed print services, Papercut, Adobe suite, Mimecast, ATS by Career Builder, Maxtime, as well as conducting hardware repairs for laptops, phones, printers, and other IT equipment. 2nd line tackled the more complex issues, supporting 1st line through escalations, troubleshooting network and infrastructure, and collaborated with other IT departments, contributing to the successful execution of IT projects and technological advancement.Unlike traditional "log and flog" support desks, our 1st line team took immense pride in their ability to resolve technical issues faced by their customers. I accomplished this by prioritising their development, wholeheartedly supporting them.Joining at the height of the Covid Pandemic, I was presented with significant challenges. It was a small, disjointed team primarily consisting of temps and contractors. They were burdened with an overwhelming number of open tickets, which led to low morale and feelings of being undertrained and undervalued. Over time, I built up the team, recruiting fantastic individuals and successfully bringing the workload under control. Together, we transformed into an exceptional and cohesive team. My focus was on creating an environment that encouraged growth, empowerment, high performance, and one in which people felt genuinely valued and supported.I’m very proud of the accomplishments we achieved during my time at Voyage Care, and I am committed to making a positive impact wherever my leadership journey takes me next.

Application Maintenance Specialist

Coventry, England, United Kingdom

As an Application Maintenance Specialist, commonly referred to as an IT Operations Engineer, I served as the subject matter expert of the GK EPOS retail system. Within an Agile Dev-Ops team of operations engineers and developers, our primary objective was to ensure the seamless performance and optimal operations of the infrastructure and servers hosting the critical EPOS applications. Diligently monitoring the systems, we swiftly resolved challenging technical issues, provided 3rd line technical support for the 2nd line IT support teams, and actively supported deployment teams to ensure a smooth and efficient implementation process. One of my favorite aspects of my role involved utilizing my expertise in Bash and PowerShell scripting to develop automation solutions, streamlining manual tasks, and creating support tools to empower fellow engineers with efficient and effective workflows.Deployed to an extensive estate of around 1200 stores nationwide, the EPOS system comprised a diverse array of components, including NetWeaver, numerous Windows servers, Java applications, handheld terminals, cashier tills, and intricate interfaces connecting with other critical business applications and services via SAP PI.Additionally, I had the opportunity to proactively design and develop a bespoke web application, utilizing my knowledge of HTML, CSS, PHP, SQL, Bash, and PowerShell. This innovative application provided us with a comprehensive monitoring capability for the retail systems, enabling us to respond promptly to any anomalies and ensure smooth operations. While my core focus remained on the EPOS systems, I was also an integral part of the team responsible for supporting and maintaining the UK's financial systems. As prominent portions of these systems were hosted on Linux CentOS servers, this role allowed me to further broaden my skills while contributing to critical business functions beyond the retail domain.
