Simulated Solutions is an engineering analysis consultancy specialising in Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Chris is a Principal FE Analyst and acts as Technical Authority & Approver on technical deliverables. Chris is responsible for the FEA capability development and supports other staff members pursuing engineering chartership and Professional Simulation Engineer accreditation.Chris has multi-disciplinary analysis capabilities with extensive experience of performing: - Linear/ non-linear statics: structural integrity assessment of systems and structures - Dynamics/ impact analysis: crash, rollover protection, and mine blast using FSI/ ALE- Ship structural, lifting, onboard vibration, and shock response analysis- Model verification and validation studies

Babcock is an international defence company providing a range of products, services and specialist training to the maritime, aviation, land and nuclear industries. Chris was based in the Mechanical Engineering Group, within UK Marine Engineering Department. Chris was responsible for Babcock’s FEA capability development, on that account he: - Developed and delivered internal training courses (HyperWorks FEA, Whole-Ship SDA)- Co-hosted bimonthly FEA User Group meetings to discuss FEA application and challenges- Provided one-to-one mentoring and on-the-job training, demonstrating best practices- Benchmarked and monitored capability via a skills matrix with various KPIs- Managed NAFEMS and ANSYS learning hub access Chris acted as Project Technical Authority, developed engineering analysis procedures and performed QA on FEA and supporting hand-calculations analysed to a range of standards, but predominantly: Eurocode 3 and DNV-ST-0001. Chris led the FEA Governance Group and was responsible for developing the company’s universal approach to FEA verification, spanning multiple disciplines, including: linear and non-linear statics, buckling, dynamics/ shock (frequency response), explicit dynamics (impact), and optimisation.

SC Group-Global is comprised of four companies: Supacat, SC Innovation, Proteum, and Blackhill Engineering; each offering expertise in various engineering disciplines and as a group design vehicles and equipment capable of operating in the most harsh of environments.As the Senior Analyst working within Supacat, Chris acted as the Technical Authority and was accountable for all safety critical analysis/ simulation tasks in the UK. Chris was regularly consulted to provide insight into the performance of mechanical systems and used advanced analysis techniques to identify, quantify and mitigate risks. Experience of leading analysis projects in both: unique environments where there are no relevant standards to follow, and heavily regulated industries ensuring that analysis is conducted in accordance with relevant BS EN, ISO, FMVSS, ECE, and DEFSTAN standards.

Following his experience of working in an engineering consultancy, Chris became a Contract FEA Engineer. Chris offered expertise in a range of FEA software packages, including:- HyperWorks/ HyperMesh- LS-Dyna, for explicit dynamic and non-linear simulations- OptiStruct, for implicit linear-static and optimisation simulations

Altair Engineering is a worldwide CAE consultancy specialising in software development and its application to engineering design and analysis.Whilst working at Altair, Chris was exposed to working in multiple industries including: Aerospace, Automotive, Maritime and Defence; and was required to perform a wide range of analyses, including: optimisation, linear and non-linear static, and explicit dynamic analysis.

The Structural Dynamics team at DSTL specialises in modelling structural response to high strain rate loadings, particularly blast and ballistic threats and their interaction with body and vehicle armour. Whilst working at DSTL, Chris assisted with the development of many research programmes, and delivery of urgent operational requirements. Chris used the finite element code LS-Dyna to analyse:- Mine blast using ALE and FSI techniques- Free-air blast using ConWep - Vehicle crashworthiness- Human injury predictions
