Supporting SAP business systems for retailers in the UK. I maintained/developed applications written in SAP's own language called ABAP.April until October 2007 - A large migration project for Vodafone, known as ICON. This needed all my skills migrating applications from old hardware to new e.g. HPUX-RISC to HP Linux. Most applications where written in C/C++ and interfaced to large Oracle databases.September 2005 until January 2006 - Worked for the oil business again for Shell's research division in Holland. I worked on their reservoir simulator, written in C/C++ and running on HP Linux and Windows 2000. The package needed a significant overhaul in quality and performance, using the instrumentation tool called Purify. I was promoted to the TC 1 level after this successful project. -
Senior Software EngineerPgs Tigress Limited Jun 1990 - Sep 2000PGS Tigress was a wholly owned subsidiary of the PGS Group (Petroleum Geophysical Services), a Norwegian owned group of companies supplying services to the Oil Companies. I was based in the UK.I wrote tools for application programmers. This toolkit was built on top of X/Motif. Specifically I had sole responsibility for the development and maintenance of a 2D graphics and hardcopy toolkit written in C.The hardcopy sub-system generated CGM files (Computer Graphics Metafile) an ANSI standard format. CGM files were generated by applications then passed to my in house preview application, and then converted to be printed in PostScript, or passed to third party plotting packages, e.g. Zeh. Tigress - the main company product, which consisted of many large application hanging off a central Oracle or Sybase database. Applications included: Petrophysics and Geology, Mapping, Geophysical Interpretation, Engineering and Simulation. Tigress is written in C and Fortran 77 Puma - An Engineering Analysis tool handling large amounts of oil well data, in multiple concessions. Puma is written in C++ and uses the Galaxy toolkit.

Senior Systems AnalystWesterngeco Sep 1987 - Aug 1990Developing and maintenance of GECO's "CHARISMA" interpretation workstations. The product used special hardware to achieve the highest possible data retrieval and display speeds. Packages were written in Pascal and Fortran 77. There were two workstation configurations : System (1) : VICOM Image Processor hosted by DEC VAX MicroVAX, or Norsk Data 500 mini computer via DMA (Direct Memory Access), plus a super fast IBIS data storage disk. System (2) : SUN/VME 3/160 with a built in VICOM Image Processor hosted by the same systems as (1).Other projects included interfaces to individual client data structures to allow use of different plotting packages outside GECO.

The product used specialised graphics hardware (VICOM) to provide high speed display of image data.Main responsibilities were providing technical documentation and staff training on the use and maintenance of the 'scaled hardcopy' plotting package, designed and written by myself. The package used UNIRAS to convert VICOM graphics files into formats suitable for a wide range of printers and plotters.
