    Initially responsible for all application analysis, development and support, both IBM Mainframe and PC environments, reporting to the VP Technology, Canada•Initial goal was to work with technology teams to migrate all processing and applications for a recently acquired payroll system to ADP Canada’s newly installed MVS host. Migration successfully took place several months ahead of schedule.•Create an organisation, including appropriate hiring, to support the ongoing growth and business need. Of particular challenge in the PC environment as ‘net’ applications were just being considered by ADP Marketing without any real plan of attack.•Assist the business (Finance) work with an outside consultant to implement a money movement system for the recently acquired payroll process. Technology entered the project approximately half way through, participated in the project from that point on and the application group assumed ongoing support of a Unix/AIX, Oracle Financial system. This included the hiring of Oracle Financial application developers, Unix & Oracle DBA and system administrator. Part of this responsibility was to install, set up a process for and implement a hot back up as a disaster recovery plan for this mission critical system.•Implement a number of smaller PC based systems to assist end users, for example a notes based sales for automation tool.•Establish for each position clear goals, measurements and feedback on performance, as well as skills assessment and training plans

    • Reporting to Vice President of Operations and head of Amex Bank.• Managed all aspects of Operational Support, i.e. front-end financial capture/back-end print and mail for statements, cheques, letters.• Liaison between business and technology group.Accomplishments:• Mail insertion/bulk mailings: reduced postage by installing a postal code pre-sort system (with no increase in staff). Saving of .04¢ per item.• Fully utilized existing resources by establishing partnerships with other (external) companies to provide processing services: established an agreement with Diners Club (US) to provide a service to capture all Diners paper charges in Canada and submit billing/reconciliation files to Diners US. Balancing internal/external resources in other areas ensured no additional headcount was necessary. Profit margin starter at 5% rising to 8% after the first year.• Outsourced opportunities with local suppliers to cut costs, to further reduce expenses. Also worked with supplier to create a solution where work could be sent off shore and received back the same day. Result: an image solution was created. Worked with local suppliers, offshore supplier and local government to ensure a reliable service would be established and maintained. Overall staffing reduced by 55 and unit cost reduced by 10-15%.• Performed several studies on the use of imaging and ICR (intelligent character recognition) technology• Implemented an international statementing system in Canada changing AMEX from Country Club billing to a descriptive statement. This included building a customized on-line customer service inquiry system for Canada. Further automation in print/mailing allowed reduction of 5 staff.• Hired and integrated disabled persons into several areas (a first for Amex• Established in-house hardware maintenance to reduce costs and improve service Semi-automated microfilm retrieval area

Automation of this process resulted in the reduction of 5 full-time staff. Savings will continue to grow over time with further staff reductions as automation grows.
