I started thatching full time at 18 years old, the day after my last A Level exam, working for my father.Over the next 13 years, I completed my apprenticeship, learning the skills needed to use all three main thatching materials. We worked on all manner of thatched roofs, from summer houses to the largest long straw thatched property in the country.In 2011 I became self employed, expanding on the work that I was completing for dad on my own. Soon becoming well established, my commitment to conservation and heritage led to an award in only our second year.The business has expanded, carrying out work for estate agents, breweries, estates and private home owners.I am committed to passing on my knowledge and we employ three others, with one completing his apprenticeship and the other two working towards it.Away from thatching, I have been volunteering since 12 years old for various organisations, being recognised at national level on occasion.
