Initially instrumental in lift and shift migration of a legacy industrial IoT platform for CHP engines from Azure to AWS. Learning a legacy .NET code base quickly to fix issues as they arose with the migration, including many performance and stability improvements, becoming team SME on the legacy platform and communications. Leading the technical architecture for rebuilding and updating the platform, which included building out a communication abstraction layer and receiver to communicate with CHP engines.During my time working on the EPower platform I was instrumental at getting a lift and shift migration across the line, including having to rapidly learn the legacy .NET code base and fix numerous stability and performance issues faced by the migration. Having become the team SME in the legacy platform, especially around the communications, I led the technical architecture of the next evolution of the platform, rebuilding and integrating with the company's energy management product. I designed and implemented a communications abstraction layer for communicating with the CHP engines. I led the design and implementation of a new receiver service which interposed between the CHP engines and the legacy platform, allowing features to be migrated one at a time into the new integrated platform. Built using Java, Netty, Spring pushing data into Kinesis and Redis.

Initially improving a failing TV Services (EPG) team, working closely with Delivery Manager and Product Owner to fix performance, stability, operational and team issues. Going from the worst performing team to best within 6 months, followed by handing over all projects to a team in Lisbon. Then leading a proof of concept realtime data analytics platform around Kafka running in GCP, delivering initial pipelines from nothing in 2 months.I led building a PoC realtime data analtics system around Kafka, this was primarily to support next generation data analytics for NowTV. It was designed to allow true self service creation of data processing pipelines. This would allow NowTV's data science team to control and manipulate realtime data analytics as they needed, empowering them to better serve customers through data. The system had dynamic data dictionaries to model source data, controlling data security. Pipelines were dynamically orchestrated by the system, executing in Google Cloud via Kubernetes and using Kafka as the underlying streaming data store.

Working on smart energy insights. Transformed data loading and processing systems. Database development and admin. Migrated entire environment to AWS, 5TB database, 4mn active users. Implemented DR. Scaled for pending mobile app launch.Over 6 months I led the successful migration of the my energy product from a Data Centre to AWS. This involved migrating a complex, high performance 7TB PostgreSQL database along with the complete application and utility stacks, and containerizing the application on ECS. During this process the system went through a full security review, resulting in significant re­-platforming as part of the migration. The migration was a success, with 4m users seeing no downtime or loss of data. It was tricky to migrate whilst the team were still developing features.

Working with a wide range of Open Source solutions for various clients solving all manner of problem. Mainly: Linux, Nagios, PostgreSQL, Apache HTTPD, MySQL.

Developing and deploying a large scale PostgreSQL (PL/Proxy, PostGIS and PGQ) OLTP cluster in 'the cloud'. Built deployment tools in Perl and Java. As well as rebuilding internal network and assisting with infrastructure.
