I edit, proof, and help write educational materials and programs (e.g., student textbooks/workbooks, teacher guides, white papers, computer apps) that use the Direct Instruction teaching method. I also help with the company’s computer-based reading program (Funnix) by creating affiliate landing pages, writing and editing content, and conducting research. Plus, I’m helping develop the company’s newest program: the Letter Identification App (LIA) for beginning readers.

I provided online editing and copywriting for clients who submit work that they wish to have completed in a short time frame. Examples include research papers, dissertations, theses, class assignments, short stories, novels, manuals, advertisements, business/marketing proposals, etc. Most clients are foreign students who are learning how to read and write US or UK English. I frequently received good feedback about my edits, and Scribendi had a few regular customers who requested that only I edit their work.

I performed either a copy edit or a more vigorous line edit for manuscripts, which were usually works of fiction but had included memoirs and how-to manuals. I tracked my changes in MS Word, queried the author, and cited the Chicago Manual of Style to support my edits. I also created an editorial critique letter for the author, where I addressed elements of storytelling such as structure, plot, flow, characterization, tone, style, dialogue, point of view, and formatting.

I proofed hardcopy nonfiction books of science or medicine. The level of proofreading varied from a simple camera-ready scan to a highly technical edit. The books averaged about 300 pages, but some were as hefty as 900 pages. Examples of the books I proofed include "Chemistry: An Acid-Based Approach," "Exercise and Disease Management," "Technologies for Food Quality and Food Safety Evaluation," and "Scientific Computing with Multicore and Accelerators."

I copy edited and proofed hardcopy and online articles for academic, medical, and scientific journals; created and modified journal-specific style guides; collaborated with proofreaders, copy editors, typesetters, account managers, managing editors, and art-department editors; applied computer coding; aided copy editors from a publishing company in Chennai, India, called TnQ; supervised a pool of 20+ freelance copy editors and gave them feedback, evaluations, and technical help; and maintained freelance copy editors’ invoices.(Some of the journals were "Anesthesia Progress," "Biomedical Instrumentation and Technology," "The Cleft Palate–Craniofacial Journal," "Journal of Athletic Training," "Journal of Endovascular Therapy," "Journal of Oral Implantology," "Journal of Parasitology," "Journal of Mammalogy," "Weed Science," "Journal of Scientific Exploration," and several journals for the American Meteorological Society.)
