My responsibilities were such as typical for a salesman: Contact customers and attempt to drum up sales via cold-calling and mailings. I also took orders called in and worked with customers to provide them the right furniture solution for their properties. For some, the process is very simple, as they are required by their flag to purchase certain styles of furniture from a set catalog. For others, the process can take quite a few more twists and turns. I would help design, measure, and layout their furniture to ensure that they got exactly what they needed. I started into the company on the factory floor running the CNC panel saws, and then moved through the factory learning each station and how the furniture was constructed before I was allowed to enter the selling position. This greatly helped in selling the furniture, as I could assuredly say how the furniture was constructed and how sturdy it could be.

I was a research assistant for Dr. Joselina Cheng in the College of business. I performed a number of duties while under her instruction. I would grade papers, enter and manipulate data, design video tutorials for basic C# programming in Visual Studio, and perform research to match her current grant funding. While working for her, I took part in the inception and implementation of a CSI Summer Academy for high school students. I created video tutorials showing the students how to interact in the 3D conferencing environment called Avaya Web Alive. Then I attended the camp as a chaperone to help keep the kids in check. I was a chaperon for two years, and will continue to return as a chaperon as long as necessary because I enjoy it.

Manged rental contracts, repaired tools as needed, performed basic upkeep and cleaning on tools, instructed and qualified customers for tools to ensure they had exactly what they needed to get the job done, checkout merchandise and handle rental deposits. I was in tool rental for 1.5 years, and learned a great deal about the repair and maintenance of a variety of electric and gas-powered motors. I had to learn how to use every tool, without ever getting to use it personally, so that I could instruct the customer in the proper handling and maintenance of the tool to prevent injury or damage to the tool. I also had to troubleshoot problems over the phone and attempt to get things working without being able to see or feel the problem. Before that I was a Garden associate for 1 year. I handled re-stocking and loading of customer vehicles, as well as selling and qualifying customers to get them the right product for their needs. Before that I was a cashier for 1 year. Nothing special there. Checked out folks and pointed them in the right direction.
