I currently work as a roving scientist spending 3 months per year working at AgResearch in NZ based at Palmerston North and 3 months per year working at Teagasc Moorepark in Ireland.
1974-1979 Commenced work at DPI Ellinbank 3821 VIC Australia with position of nutrition scientist in dairy industry.1979-1982 Gained PhD at Massey University NZ. Thesis titled "Some effects of genotype on the conversion of pasture to milk by dairy cows".1982-1988 Senior research scientist dairy nutrition1988-1992 Manager Dairy Production Services responsible for dairy nutrition research and dairy extension based at Ellinbank.1992-2003 Director Dairy Research Institute Ellinbank. Responsible for Australia’s largest dairy research centre that carries out research relevant, in particular, to southern Australian dairy regions. Resources of the institute include 470 milking cows, state of the art dairy, indoor feeding and metabolism facilities for cows and calorimetric facilities. There are about 55 staff at the research institute. The budget of the centre was about $5 million in 2002/03. In 2003 the Division was restructured and Institutes were not part of the new structure.2003-2009 Principal Research Scientist Livestock Systems. Research included mitigation strategies for methane emissions from ruminant livestock, extended lactation of dairy cows, feed conversion efficiency of dairy cows. I resigned from DPI in January 2009 after 35 years.
