Working as a full time Senior Health and Safety practitioner, with a proactive can do approach to health and safety in a dynamic working environment. I manage a team of Corporate Occupational Safety Advisers in a large diverse Local Authority. We work closely with HR, Occupational Health, Fire, CDM, Insurance and Legal services, to continually improve health and safety performance of the Council and the Safety service. It is important for me to have the ability to work strategically as well as hands on approach ; where the advice, guidance and support offered to managers and staff is of the highest quality in order to manage the risks to the authority. I use my working experiences and further training to develop my working skills and maintaining my CMIOSH status (Chartered Membership) via IOSH CPD.During my career I have worked in a variety of industries, including heavy engineering, food and service industry, educational support services and now with the 5th largest local authority in the UK. The core elements of my work is the continual development of robust H&S Management Systems; including policy development, risk profiling and management and performance report review. In addition my work also includes safety guidance and support accident investigation, H&S inspection and auditing process, training programmes, data analysis and face to face advice/support to managers, staff at all levels, our stakeholders and enforcing authorities. I am also active member of Yorkshire Region Local Authority Safety Forum.
