I had the pleasure of working with incredible colleagues from all across the globe as we met the challenge of taking the company from a start up, private equity firm to one which had $1.7 billion AUM at the time of sale to Abraaj.Aureos began as a joint venture between CDC and NorFund just after 9/11. FMO later entered into the capital and management structure. We grew rapidly from managing about $72m of SME legacy funds contributed by CDC. Along the way, Aureos management executed an employee/management purchase of the firm. That long process was completed in 2008.Aureos continues to have a strong presence in Africa, SE Asia and Latin America. The firm was unique in that it operated only in emerging markets and dealt strictly in the SME space.
