Performing Arts Technical Manager
CurrentAs Production and Technical Manager, I am responsible for all performance and events within and associated with the school. alongside overseeing the practical aspects, budgets and safety, I also have creative input into each production. Being a multi-skilled practitioner allows me to lead or assist in a variety of working areas. The role allows me to work directly with pupils throughout the school in technical theatre lessons and productions, and I run a successful weekly activity outside of the curriculum for students interested in theatre practices and the arts.
Technical Manager
As the technical manager of a thriving and prestigious theatre and arts space, I was responsible for all technical aspects involved in delivering performances throughout the year. The theatre hosted events on-site in the main auditorium, a gallery, two rehearsal and meeting rooms and a large bar area, as well as a number of site specific events around the county, all of which were my responsibility. I was also involved directly in the delivery of a number of very successful touring productions, produced in conjunction with other small theatres.Communication skills were essential in this role, as I would liaise with artists, performers, production companies and local community groups in the development or run up to performances and productions. Additionally, being so heavily involved in a theatre within a small community meant that the allowed me every opportunity to meet with visitors to the theatre, as I was a constant and recognisable face. The theatre itself worked closely with a number of schools and community groups, as well as hosting workshops and events for young people in school holidays. It was working with young people in this environment that led me to want to develop this aspect of my career further. My work in improving the theatre technical spaces led to a number of successful fundraising projects, as well as opening up new streams of revenue through developing links with locals school to provide affordable hire equipment for their productions
Sound Engineer
I was privileged enough to be a part of this award winning music and arts venue in my home town, spending the majority of my youth and young adulthood involved with the venue. My primary duties included engineering artists and musicians to an exceptional degree of professionalism, with a working knowledge of all aspects of live audio production and event management. Secondary duties included the maintenance of equipment, acting as artist liaison, creating as well as receiving and implementing technical specifications to and from artist technical teams. We would also host external events, both on site as well as providing technical support for events across the South East.I was responsible for staff training, instructing paid staff, trainees and work experience students in the use of all technical equipment and proper practice. The position held allowed me to interact with work experience students and young adults interested in live sound engineering to develop professional practice within their chosen musical fields.
