I am an Emergency Medicine Physician with a passion for Global Health and Humanitarian Medicine. In the UK I work in Emergency Medicine in Bristol and in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) for MAGPAS air ambulance in Cambridgeshire. I also work as a Paediatric Intensive Care Retrieval Doctor for PaNDR in Cambridge. I am a founding trustee and regularly work for the global health charity "Dharura: Global Emergency Care" based in Bristol. We support UK doctors and nurses to undertake 3 month placements in Kenya providing support for quality improvement projects, education and partnership building. We also undertake twice annual week long training trips with senior UK clinicians to provide targeted training in medical, surgical and trauma emergenices. Dharura was also recently awarded a THET grant to undertake Antimicrobial Resistance training and development in Laikipia county over the next 2 years, helping to improve the understanding of AMR and the use of antibiotics via a one health strategy.I am a member of the Paediatric Blast Injury Project, co-leading the development of a Paediatric Trauma Resuscitation Course (PTRC) based around the Paediatric Blast Injury Field Manual that was released in 2019 as a pocket guide to the management of the severely injured child from moment of injury to the end of their need for psycho social support after their recovery.Before returning to the UK at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic I was working for the MSF France emergency desk and spent 2 years in the field with them in Bangladesh, Nigeria, Yemen, Gaza and DRC. I was involved as a Doctor, Medical Team Leader and Project Co-ordinator in projects as diverse as cholera, measles and malaria outbreaks, Antimicrobial resistance due to gun shot wounds, maternity care and the provision of emergency department and trauma surgery services.Prior to joining the MSF E-Desk I had spent 2 years as a doctor working for MSF and the ICRC in South Sudan, Gaza and Egypt.My passion for global health was initially sparked by a medical student elective placement in the SOWETO township of Johannesburg. Once I completed my UK foundation training in Cornwall, I returned to South Africa to work in a rural hospital in KZN gaining a huge amount of experience in remote medicine, HIV and TB.I returned to the UK to complete the ACCS in emergency medicine in Edinburgh before undertaking MSc Tropical Medicine and International Health and the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
