Local Internship Programs Counselor
Los Angeles, California, United States
As one of three advisors for the Internships and International Programs Office, I served as the UCLA resource person charged with connecting students from all majors to Local and State internship opportunities. Delivered direct 1:1 advising sessions for up to 30 students each week. Cultivated internship opportunities by advising employers on how to best build and promote their experiential learning programs. Led the Center's Sacramento internship program for a cohort of up to 15 summer interns. Designed and presented career education workshops focused on effective internship search techniques, building a stand-out resume, preparing for interviews, and networking with potential employers. Conducted workshops, drop-in hours, and campus-wide awareness campaigns for public service fellowships such as the California Capital Fellows program, the Coro Fellowship in Public Affairs, and the Rotary International Global Grants program. Was promoted (re-classified) to manage all department services relating to Internships and Work-Abroad programs. In late 2009, I led a transition of our physical internship office to a revenue-generating, multi-use space that continues to serve campus today. From 2010 forward, my mission was to figure out on the fly how to deliver personalized internship support - of unique value - to 44,000 very deserving UCLA students. In terms of how I communicate with colleagues, it's all based on trust EOD. I embrace and build on imperfection 🇺🇲
