I continued in my existing role as it rapidly expanded through the chaotic merging process. It was extremely challenging, but it helped my professional life evolve far beyond what I had hoped or expected. I found myself in a unique position of building working relationships and trust, not only between several new IT departments, but between individual colleagues around the globe. Over time, I managed to build bridges where there used to exist large cultural divides and overall gained valuable interpersonal leadership skills.

I was invited to join RxElite when it was a small entrepreneurial company of 8 people and managed the IT growth needs until RxElite was sold to Piramal Critical Care in 2009 after it had grown to a $50mm company with 35 local employees and 15 remote sales people. We started small with one server, QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel as the primary tools, but as the company grew, I was able to research and implement full ERP, CRM and warehouse inventory systems. We used Voice over IP phone systems, smart phones and Microsoft Exchange to unify communications between the inside and outside employees. That kind of expansion also necessitated expanding the LAN and using VPNs, fiber and wireless to interconnect buildings and business partners to keep everyone working together.

I was hired by CRI to join their managed service team at Hewlett Packard to manage HP’s email servers in North and South America (a bit over 200 servers). This team’s responsibility grew rapidly as we took over the Microsoft Exchange application as well as the OS and hardware care of the servers. We handled tier 3 and 4 support for Exchange and servers. After about a year and a half HP started giving our team responsibility for designing, building, and running hosted Exchange environments for several of their customers. By the time it was all said and done, I had experience managing over 250,000 Exchange seats and 500 servers on a global basis. Because of my ability to learn quickly I had experience both on the Microsoft side but had also become the subject matter expert on the server hardware as well as Linux antispam and antivirus application servers.
